Tuesday Lunch Bunch
11:00 AM – General Group Discussion
12:00 PM – Depart for Lunch
The Bering Connect Lunch Bunch is a weekly gathering of those who are HIV+. The group meets at 11:00 AM at Bering Memorial United Methodist Church (entry at rear of the building off Hawthorne) for a group discussion. The discussion around individuals’ issues is continued at a local restaurant that is chosen by the group during the pre-lunch discussion. Each attendee pays for his/her own lunch. The Lunch Bunch is a casual, friendly, non-threatening and non-judgmental group activity. Although some attendees have a long tenure with the Lunch Bunch, new participants are encouraged to attend. All ages, races, genders are welcome – the Lunch Bunch is spiritually inclusive – all are welcome!
Confidentiality is assured at the Lunch Bunch meetings. If you have questions about the Lunch Bunch, or are interested in attending, you can simply show up, or contact Larry Leutwyler for more information.
Wednesday Support Group
6:30 PM – Dinner and General Meeting
7:30 PM – Small Group Discussions
8:30 PM – Meeting Adjourns
The Bering Spiritual Support Group (BSSG) is a weekly gathering of those who are positive, and their friends and family. The group is casual and interactive with a focus on the needs of those in attendance. The group meets at 6:30 PM at Bering Memorial United Methodist Church (entry at rear of the building off Hawthorne) for a covered dish dinner – those attendees who are able to bring a dish to share are asked to do so, but those who cannot are still encouraged to attend and participate. The dinner is a great way to mix and mingle, discuss interesting topics related to news events and/or HIV topics.
Following dinner and open discussion, about 7:00 PM, the group is welcomed and birthdays, anniversaries, job-related announcements, etc., are celebrated. Sharing good news is a wonderful way to get to know group participants and provide support when needed. After a quick break, the group reassembles for the topic presentation by a member or a guest speaker.
The final hour of the BSSG meeting is dedicated to small group discussions facilitated by experienced group leaders. Although these leaders are not professional counselors, they are experienced in leading such discussions. Participants are encouraged to talk about any issue they may be having, or the group may choose to discuss the topic that was presented earlier. All attendees are encouraged to participate in the small groups, but are not required to do so in order to participate at the dinner.
All ages, races, genders are welcome to attend – the BSSG has a broad diversity of participants, and the group is always looking to broaden our ability to meet the needs of an ever-changing population. The support group is spiritually inclusive – all are welcome … and all means ALL! BSSG is also open to your suggestions for topics and guest speakers, so why don’t you join us for one of our support groups and see for yourself how much you can gain by doing so.
Confidentiality is paramount at BSSG meetings. If you have questions about the BSSG, or are interested in attending, you can simply show up, or contact Larry Leutwyler for more information.
